Following on from last week’s reality check about what’s working, and what’s not (previous blog posts), let’s talk about something I see constantly – leadership teams who look great on paper but clash in practice.

watts not working: Putting high performers together and expecting magic to happen. Just because they’re all excellent at their jobs doesn’t mean they’ll work well together. It’s like expecting a room full of lead singers to automatically form a harmony!

watts really happening: Your leadership team is probably full of brilliant people who are driving each other crazy. The detailed person is frustrated with the big picture thinker. The fast-paced driver is annoyed with the relationship builder. The analytical one is clashing with the intuitive one.

Sound familiar?

watts working: Understanding that these differences aren’t flaws – they’re features! When you understand your team’s DISC profiles, suddenly:

• Conflicts make sense
• Communication improves
• Decisions get easier
• Meetings become productive
• Strengths get leveraged

watts the real game changer: Stop trying to change how your leaders operate and start understanding how to make their different styles work together.

Here’s what that looks like:

• The D (Driver) keeps you focused on results
• The I (Influencer) brings energy and new ideas
• The S (Steady) maintains relationships and stability
• The C (Conscientious) ensures quality and accuracy

When you get this right:

• Your fast-paced D knows to slow down for details with the C
• Your people-focused I remembers to bring data to the C
• Your steady S feels safe to speak up to the D
• Your analytical C learns to trust the I’s instincts

Here’s my challenge to you this week: Instead of getting frustrated with how your leadership team operates differently, get curious about it. What if those differences are exactly what your business needs?

Because a great leadership team isn’t about everyone being the same. It’s about making the differences work in your favor.
