The Blind Spot Every CEO Has
Hello,
I had a conversation last week that I’ve had many times before and it still made my head spin.
A founder called wanting DISC profiles for his entire team. Outcome profiles for every role. 360 feedback for all his managers.
“Sounds great,” I said. “When do you want to start with yours?”
“Oh, I don’t need all that. I know what I’m doing.”
Really? You’re the person impacting every single part of the business, and you don’t need clarity or feedback?
watts not working: Thinking self-awareness tools are for everyone except the person who needs them most.
I see this constantly. CEOs who mandate performance reviews for their team but haven’t had one themselves in years. Founders who insist on role clarity for everyone except themselves.
watts really happening: The person with the most impact is operating with the least self-awareness.
You affect every decision, every culture moment, every strategic direction. Your team adjusts their behaviour based on your moods, your communication style, your blind spots.
If anyone needs a 360 review, it’s you. If anyone needs outcome clarity, it’s you. If anyone needs to understand their DISC profile and how it impacts others, it’s definitely you.
watts working: Leaders who go first when it comes to development tools.
The best CEOs I work with are the first to get profiled, reviewed, and coached. Not because they’re broken, but because they understand their influence. They understand that their blind spots become company blind spots.
watts the real game changer: You’re asking your team to play a game where the most important player doesn’t know the rules.
If you’re not getting feedback and developing self-awareness, you’re the biggest blocker to your team’s performance.
Have a week of leading by example!
