To reflect on your year.

Life is hectic and business is no different. We are connected 24-7 and rarely switch off.

Let’s be honest with ourselves, this is not going to change, it is the new game and we need to get better at playing it

Xmas is a great reset button. A time to breathe and spend time with family and friends. As a colleague expressed to me this week Christmas is one of the only times of the year that everyone in your network (clients, colleagues, partners, family, suppliers and connections) mutually understand you won’t be returning their call. But more importantly you can rest easy knowing they are likely taking a break too.

It is the perfect time for reflection of your year.

“Don’t get tempted to throw all of your energy into goal setting for 2019…..before you reflect on your year”

Like most people, I find it hard to stop, hard to take a moment and reflect back, but this week I have forced myself to do that.

As you would expect there were wins, losses, uppercuts and lessons. Some painful lessons, some moments that made me smile and some great things to celebrate. This is not a time to criticise yourself either, all these recollections are part of the game we are playing.

And this is your chance to be become a better player!

Five of my personal & business reflections are below:

  1. Tough conversations are the key to consulting (I marked myself well here), but don’t forget to have them internally (I need to improve here)
  2. Our unique selling proposition (USP) is: we are a small business and our consulting and product is evidence and research based, not theoretical (we know that it works and how to implement it)
  3. We are not HR, we are Small to Medium Business experts who add commercial value to our clients
  4. Block out time to think
  5. Regardless how busy you are, take time to celebrate success (we missed some opportunities here in 2018)

These will help myself and the team to make great workplaces in 2019

Flowing on from 5. our wattsnext team will be celebrating the year that was tomorrow! I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our network for your friendship and support in 2018 and we can’t wait to introduce you to some exciting new team members as wattsnext strives to provide HR for the Modern World in 2019.

Before you nestle into the Xmas break with the last thing to cross off your task list is to reflect on your business and personal performance

Don’t miss the opportunity, your 2019 will thank you for it!

Merry Christmas
